RACHAEL POWER
Partner
“I am the fourth generation Moffitt to practice as a lawyer in Grenfell and I am very proud of my family’s long history of legal practice in this district”.
Rachael was admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW in 2003, the Supreme Court of WA in 2004 and as a Solicitor of the High Court of Australia in 2006.
Rachael studied at the University of New England and was motivated to study law because it runs in her family! When she decided to study law straight out of school she wasn’t sure if she would make a career out of it, but by the time she was halfway through her double degree in Commerce/Law she knew accounting wasn’t for her.
After being admitted to the NSW Supreme Court in 2003, Rachael moved to Western Australia where she practiced in a suburban legal firm in Fremantle and later a large regional practice in Albany. She practiced mainly in Family Law and Wills during that time. Rachael lived in Western Australia for 4 years before returning to NSW.
Rachael commenced working as a lawyer with Gordon Garling Moffitt in late 2007 and practices mainly in the areas of Criminal Law and Wills and Estates, as well as Conveyancing.
Rachael became a Partner at Gordon Garling Moffitt in the challenging year of 2020.
“I enjoy assisting clients, who are very often also friends or acquaintances, with their legal work. Often they are experiencing a very stressful time in their lives and I aim to alleviate as much of that stress for them as possible.”
Rachael Power
In the local community Rachael is actively involved in fundraising for the Grenfell Public School P&C Association. She has held executive positions of Secretary for 2 years and then President for 2 years. Prior to COVID-19 restrictions, Rachael was involved in the Grenfell Henry Lawson Festival and running the Cathy Wiegold Memorial Fun Run (this is also a collective GGM organisational effort with Peter Moffitt, Vanessa Gibson and the Grenfell office staff). Rachael was also a Grenfell Pre-School and Long Day Care Centre committee member for 2 years when her children were attending the centre. She also attends Grenfell Amateur Swimming Club committee meetings regularly during the summer swimming season, acting as a Marshall on club nights and also competing from time to time.
In her role as lawyer at Gordon Garling Moffitt, Rachael believes the ability to articulate information in a way that is best understood by the listener is crucial. Having the flexibility to switch between formal language when advocating in court to plain language when explaining advice to clients is of high importance to her.
Outside of work, volunteering and family commitments, Rachael enjoys reading books and interesting articles, listening to podcasts, and watching good TV shows or movies. She also enjoys walking the family dog.
