Vanessa was admitted as a Solicitor in 2003 after studying at the University of New England in Armidale. Having worked in Sydney at J R Gibb & Co and then as a Policy Advisor for the then Minister for Agriculture, Warren Truss, Vanessa had a strong urge to return to her rural roots. Having grown up in the Riverina on a sheep and cropping farm, Vanessa has a firm belief that rural communities are entitled to the same quality legal representation as those in the cities. With a passion for succession planning, working in Grenfell with Peter Moffitt seemed like a perfect fit.
Vanessa commenced work with GGM in 2005 while Peter was on an overseas holiday and has not left since. Vanessa became a partner in 2013 and now lives in Grenfell with her husband and two small children. Vanessa believes that country communities can be great – so long as we all participate.
Vanessa practices in most areas of law but has a particular interest in conveyancing and leasing (rural, residential and commercial) and hotel work. Vanessa specialises in all facets of the liquor industry – both at work and outside of work! Vanessa is on the front foot when it comes to the application of the Personal Properties Securities Act and is aware of its huge application to our varied client base. Vanessa is passionate about assisting in ensuring the succession of family business assets, particularly farming assets. Vanessa is keen to see the widening of s274 of the Duties Act to make it easier to ensure the transition of farming properties between different members of the family, particularly in relation to the winding up of old farming family companies that no longer serve a purpose.
Vanessa is a member and Deputy Chair of the Catholic Education Commission, a member of St Joseph’s School Grenfell P&F and Chair St Joseph's School Grenfell Board. Vanessa believes it is imperative that parents in small communities have educational choices and is therefore a big supporter of the three schools in Grenfell. On weekends, Vanessa supports the Grenfell Junior Rugby Union Club and has been Registrar of the Club for several years. She loves standing outside in the cold on her Sundays throughout the Southern Inland region!
The Grenfell Office of GGM has provided a unique opportunity to practice in all areas of the law as you can never be too sure what might walk through these doors. Having studied at University with Rachael Power, Vanessa has welcomed her addition to the Grenfell office and the two look forward to the future of the firm in Grenfell.
